Rwanda Deportation Scheme Cancellation

voted to scrap the Rwanda deportation scheme with no replacement deterrent

What this is

Labour cancelled the Conservative-era Rwanda deportation scheme on taking office in July 2024 and is replacing it with the Border Security Command framework.

What changed as a result

The scheme was wound down. Channel-crossing volumes have continued to fluctuate and remain a live political issue.

What to read for

MPs whose pre-cancellation statements urged the Conservative government to use Rwanda flights as a deterrent and have shifted their position post-2024.
