343 to 0: No Labour MP Voted Against the National Insurance Rise
On 17 December 2024 the National Insurance Contributions (Secondary Class 1 Contributions) Bill passed its Third Reading 354 to 202. The Commons Votes record shows 343 Labour MPs voted aye and zero voted no. The Bill raised employer National Insurance from 13.8 per cent to 15 per cent. The OBR judges that around three-quarters of the cost will be passed to workers through lower real wages by 2026/27.
A Labour Donor's Hedge Fund Has Been Buying UK Private Hospital Shares
Crake Asset Management, the hedge fund founded by Labour donor Martin Taylor, has bought more than £8M of shares in HCA Healthcare since the July 2024 general election according to The Ferret. Taylor has separately given more than £700,000 to the Labour Party directly and over £1 million to the Labour Together think tank. The Labour government has signalled an expanded role for the private sector in delivering NHS care.
£107,000 in Gifts: Every Item Declared by Keir Starmer Since Taking Office
Keir Starmer has declared more than £107,000 in gifts, hospitality, and benefits in kind since becoming Labour leader (Sky News, 18 September 2024 — £107,145 as compiled from the parliamentary Register). The largest single gift-giver was Lord Waheed Alli, who later received and then had revoked a Downing Street security pass. Lord Alli is now under formal investigation by the Lords Commissioner for Standards over unregistered interests.
