Illegal Migration Act Repeal
voted to weaken border enforcement powers that deter illegal Channel crossings
What this is
The 2023 Illegal Migration Act made all 'irregular' arrivals automatically inadmissible to the asylum system. Labour committed to repeal key sections in the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill. The 19 November 2025 vote was a Commons motion to disagree with Lords Amendment 37, which would have softened a particular clause; voting AYE supported the Government's repeal package.
What changed as a result
The Government's position carried 326-93. Repeal continued as drafted.
