At @HOCcommitteesUK SITC I asked new @Ofcom chair, Sir Ian Cheshire, if he is worried about the speed of technology change impacting Ofcom's many responsibilities - from Online Safety, BBC, Royal Mail, Data Centres, Telecoms, & chatbots encouraging children to harm themselves.

Hard‑working families in Newcastle Central and West too often think they have to hold back. To add to the support we've already put in, we're making sure all children in England can travel free on buses in August.

Many people and organisations have raised concerns with us about the slow progress of online safety so at SITC @HOCcommitteesUK I asked the preferred candidate for @Ofcom chair, Sir Ian Cheshire, if he will get to grips with online safety and take on the Tech Bros.

Huge thank you to members of the Youth Town Hall, supported by FlippGen, for discussing their report with me on social media policy for young people. It’s clear social media can cause real harm and more must be done to protect people, especially young users.

At today's SIT @HOCcommitteesUK I asked preferred @Ofcom chair candidate Sir Ian Cheshire if Ofcom's remit that now includes the postal service, broadcasting and the BBC, telecoms and online safety is too big to be effectively managed and chaired?

Many of our digital harms are underpinned by engagement driven digital advertising. I asked The Secretary of State whether the Government will regulate this, as called for by my @HoCcommitteesUK report into social media, misinformation and harmful algorithms.

Great to speak at LSE about climate resilience and the UK’s opportunity to lead. Adapting to the climate change which is already happening can make us more resilient and drive productivity, strengthen security, and support long-term prosperity.
