House of Lords Hereditary Peers

voted to remove hereditary peers from the House of Lords while stuffing it with Labour donors

What this is

The House of Lords (Hereditary Peers) Bill removes the remaining 92 hereditary peers. Labour-manifesto commitment. The 4 September 2025 vote disagreed with a Lords amendment that would have preserved some hereditary places. Voting AYE meant continuing with full removal.

What changed as a result

The Government's position carried 335-72. Bill is awaiting Royal Assent.
